Goleta Riparian Corridor Wildfire Risk Reduction & Restoration Project

The Goleta Riparian Corridor Wildfire Risk Reduction & Restoration Project was funded by a California Coastal Conservancy Grant and builds on initial planning work by the Environmental Defense Center that identified wildfire risks and restoration opportunities in numerous sites within twelve watersheds. LegacyWorks is partnering with the Cachuma Resource Conservation District, and the Community Environmental Council to coordinate the effort which is in progress. We have prioritized 10 sites and are partnering with UCSB who will develop restoration plans that reduce wildfire risk and build resilience. In addition to reducing wildfire risk, other benefits will include improved biodiversity and hydrologic function of streams. The restoration planning process will include engaging community members for input.

Other key partners include Goleta City, Goleta City Parks and Open Space Division, Santa Barbara County Fire, Santa Barbara County Fire Safe Council, and the Environmental Defense Center.
