Cailan Sugano

Project Manager

Fueled by a passion for protecting natural systems and the local communities that depend upon them, Cailan joined LegacyWorks Group in 2023 to support an innovative fisheries management project. He holds a BS in Aquatic Biology from the University of California, Santa Barbara and an MS in Marine Biology from Scripps Institution of Oceanography. As a marine scientist, Cailan contributed to long-term ecological monitoring and conservation in the Santa Barbara Channel, the Northern Line Islands, and McMurdo Sound, Antarctica. He has worked with a diversity of teams to explore the adaptive capacity of marine species to ocean acidification and warming.

Cailan recognizes the value of action-based approaches and communicating research beyond the scientific community. He has a track record of sharing key findings with the public, educators, and policy makers. Cailan strongly believes in the necessity of collaboration across backgrounds and interest groups to drive transformative change. A clear lover of ocean activities, Cailan also enjoys traveling and learning about different cultures, martial arts, hiking, cooking, and promoting laughter whenever possible.
