Tony Mong

East Yellowstone Project Director

Tony Mong is a wildlife biologist with more than 25 years of experience in wildlife management, habitat conservation, and partnership-based conservation. His career has included work in Missouri, Kansas, Kenya and Wyoming, with much of his recent experience focused on elk, moose, mule deer, pronghorn, bighorn sheep, mountain goats, sage grouse and the landscapes that sustain them.

Before joining LegacyWorks Group, Tony spent 16 years with the Wyoming Game and Fish Department, including nearly a decade working in the eastern Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. Based in Cody, he led wildlife management, research, and partnership efforts involving population monitoring, migration and winter-range conservation, wildlife-friendly fencing, disease surveillance, and habitat improvement. His work helped develop strong relationships across the region and contributed to collaborative efforts such as the Absaroka Fence Initiative and numerous projects involving private lands and working agricultural landscapes. 

He joined LegacyWorks Group in July 2026 as the East Yellowstone Project Director. In this role, he works with partners throughout the region to strengthen conservation relationships, align shared priorities, and advance durable solutions for wildlife habitat, working lands, and the communities of the East Yellowstone landscape. He believes the most lasting conservation outcomes are built through trust, local knowledge, sound science, and a willingness to work across traditional boundaries.
