Santa Barbara Bucket Brigade Strategic Expansion
The Bucket Brigade was created to prepare for and respond to natural disasters and community crises through volunteer training, coordination, and deployment. Formed to rally community volunteerism to support response, relief and recovery from the catastrophic 2019/2020 Thomas Fire and Montecito Debris Flows, the Bucket Brigade has since been working to increase resilience and disaster preparedness at the neighborhood level.
Through consultation, facilitation, and guided networking, LegacyWorks helped the Bucket Brigade evolve from pop-up nonprofit to established community institution leading local resilience efforts. Their work addresses the gaps in services for local communities while organizing and empowering community readiness, response and uplift. Each Bucket Brigade mobilization meets a key community need and builds collective capacity to rise to meet the next challenge, thereby bringing their vision of a community that gets better for everyone, no matter what happens next, closer to reality. During the COVID-19 Global Pandemic, the Bucket Brigade rapidly mobilized community response to the lack of Personal Protective Equipment. In the first few months of the pandemic, SBBB distributed thousands of masks to frontline organizations.
