Communications Specialist
The Communications Specialist role is a part-time, non-exempt and temporary position within the Platform Division of LegacyWorks Group. This role is a remote position and will report to the Director of People & Culture. The position begins January 5, 2025 and will end August 31, 2025 with the possibility of becoming a permanent, full-time position. The position requires the ability to commit 10-15 hours per week to the position.

What You’ll Do
The Communications Specialist strengthens connection, trust, and shared understanding across LegacyWorks by providing high-quality storytelling, data sharing, and communications support. They produce newsletters, website updates, impact briefs, presentations, and other content while offering technical assistance to program teams and partners. They also contribute to a collaborative, inclusive organizational culture and support LegacyWorks’ broader systems-change and impact goals.
The Communications Specialist role is integral to support:
Building connectedness, relationships, and trust between the Platform team and the programmatic divisions within LegacyWorks
Building communications capacity of the organization through multiple pathways by ensuring programmatic divisions have the training and resources they need to tell their stories
Facilitating meaningful engagement with the work of the LegacyWorks through storytelling and data sharing
Catalyzing collaborative action and investment towards systems change by sharing the impact of LegacyWorks model
Providing programmatic data and storytelling to inform the decisions of the organization
Your Primary Responsibilities
Platform Communications Technical Assistance
Write and edit quarterly newsletter stories for the LegacyThreads newsletter
Format, distribute and evaluate performance of the LegacyThreads newsletter in Bloomerang
Re-design, update and improve LegacyWorks’ Squarespace website
Design and/or write project specific content or deliverables
Sentinel Landscapes Communications Technical Assistance
Support sentinel landscape coordinators through the design of newsletters, impact briefs, and infographics for reporting and partner communications
Create slide decks (power point, Google slides) presentations and other communications materials for the federal coordinating committee and its agency members
Write stories demonstrating impact of Sentinel Landscapes program for various uses and outlets

1-3 years of professional experience working in communications or marketing field
Advanced writing skills with a history of writing character-driven and impact centered stories
Excellent verbal communication skills

Communicating candidly and compassionately, keeping messages clear, timely, and accessible
Embracing distributed leadership, stepping up while creating space for others to contribute and collaborate
Channeling systems thinking by connecting perspectives to make sense of complexity
Harnessing technology creatively, using current and emerging tools to advance projects and organizational goals
Organizing and managing fast paced and evolving projects and systems
Additional desired skillsets are:
Knowledge or experience with Canva or InDesign
Knowledge or experience with Squarespace
Knowledge or experience with Bloomerang
Compensation & Benefits
The hourly rate for the Communication Specialist position is $35.00-$45.00 based on relevant qualifications and experience. We offer part time employees paid vacation and sick time, a cell phone stipend, and a 401(k) retirement plan following an introductory period.
