Consulting Engagement Director

The Consulting Director role is a full-time, exempt position within the Consulting Division of LegacyWorks Group. This position is a remote role and will report to the Vice President of Consulting.

The Consulting team brings deep experience in strategy, facilitation, communications, and collaborative design. Whether it’s developing an impact strategy, designing and launching a multi-million-dollar fund, or co-launching a regional initiative, we work alongside clients and partners across North America to build the infrastructure and momentum for lasting change. 

What You’ll Do
The Consulting Director leads the design and implementation of adaptive consulting and impact finance strategies that advance conservation and community resilience across North America. This role involves managing complex client engagements—from opportunity development to execution—while translating financial concepts into actionable solutions. 

The Consulting Director’s role is integral to:

  1. Fostering trust, connectedness, relationships, strong networks, and partnerships within the impact finance community

  2. Building capacity and supporting leadership development in the impact finance community to support the next generation of changemakers

  3. Facilitating authentic programs and convening spaces to foster the needs and dreams of community members, investors, and partnering organizations  

  4. Catalyzing collective action and investment in community priorities by generating both lucrative business opportunities, and fundraising for programmatic needs  

  5. Sharing stories and clear data from the Consulting team as a core element of programming and operations to drive support for the program and build a movement towards cultural change 

Your Primary Responsibilities 

  1. Impact Finance Consulting & Strategic Advisory 

    • Lead the planning and design of client-driven impact finance initiatives and impact investment projects including developing scopes of work, workflows, and budgets for incorporation into contracts

    • Support client partners in clearly articulating their impact intentions and emergent ideas for programs, investments, funds, enterprises and initiatives 

    • Undertake the research and design work needed to help clients develop innovative finance strategies, capital stacks, and funds aligned with intended impacts and community needs

    • Within engagements, support fundraising and resource mobilization through blended finance, grants, and innovative funding mechanisms

    • Oversee financial due diligence and risk assessments and develop evaluation frameworks for partner projects and investments

    • Translate complex finance concepts into accessible language and actionable strategies for our clients and partners, ensuring each engagement advances their conservation and community resilience initiatives while building their capacity, skills and expertise

    • Consistently deliver high-quality outcomes—across relationships, processes and results—that advance the Consulting team’s goals and further its reputation as the partner to turn to for high impact projects aligned with our purpose 

  2. Engagement Leadership, Planning and Management

    • Lead the execution and evaluation of engagements including stewarding client relationships, planning and facilitating internal and external meetings, implementing and adapting engagement plans, coordinating engagement timelines, and actively managing engagement budgets and staff time allocations to meet internal financial goals

    • Design and implement adaptive processes to develop and continually refine strategies tailored to client and community needs and contexts

    • Lead the full business development cycle by identifying, assessing, and advancing opportunities where LWG can deliver outsized impact and value, and bringing the best opportunities to fruition as engagements

    • Ensure all project deliverables and interactions are consistently high-quality, fostering clear communication, alignment, and actionable outcomes

  3. Relationship Stewardship 

    • Build and maintain relationships with funders, impact investors, financial institutions, government agencies, and non-profit organizations, practicing active listening and fostering collaboration

    • As directed, represent the organization in external forums and conferences

    • Mentor and support partners and peers, building capacity in others to strengthen their skills, leadership, and impact in impact finance initiatives

    • Foster trust and alignment through clear, strategic communication with staff, board members, donors, and community partners

  4. Evaluation, Reporting, and Storytelling

    • Share the story of the Consulting team by weaving data and narratives that highlight successes, lessons learned, and collective impact, inspiring cultural change and broader participation

    • Prepare high-quality reports, case studies, and presentations for LWG’s Board, funders, and stakeholders that communicate the outcomes of impact finance initiatives

  5. Team Development and Culture Stewardship

    • Mentor and manage Consulting staff, fellows, and interns, building capacity through knowledge sharing, co-created goals, and guidance that strengthens collective leadership

    • Model trust, active listening, openness, vulnerability, and accountability within the Consulting team, fostering a culture where everyone can bring their whole selves and diverse voices contribute meaningfully

    • Embrace complexity and encourage reflection in team decision-making, supporting thoughtful problem-solving

    • Ensure belonging, access, and opportunity internally by creating an environment where team members feel valued, supported, and empowered to contribute 

    • Continuously advance your own development across all LWG core competencies, modeling active learning and personal growth for the team

  6. Organizational Collaboration 

    • Contribute to the evolution of LWG’s collaborative impact model and support initiatives centered around belonging, access and opportunity

    • Participate actively in organization-wide communities of practice, retreats,  meetings and working groups to contribute, learn, and foster a cohesive team environment

    • Support effective and efficient organization operations by actively utilizing and contributing to the improvement of  all LPW’s systems, policies and processes

Your core skills and experience include: 

  • History of working as a consultant or in a consulting, client-focused mode 

  • Deep professional experience working in impact finance and/or conservation finance, including experience in fund design, launch and management 

  • Bringing vision to life by co-creating goals and driving disciplined, focused execution

  • Communicating candidly and compassionately, keeping messages clear, timely, and accessible

  • Embracing distributed leadership, stepping up while creating space for others to contribute and collaborate

  • Channeling systems thinking by connecting perspectives to make sense of complexity

  • Harnessing technology creatively, using current and emerging tools to advance projects and organizational goals

  • Organizing and managing fast paced and evolving projects and systems 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for client communications

For this role in particular, we’re also looking for someone who brings a depth of experience, expertise and creativity in the field of impact finance, spanning the full spectrum of capital from philanthropy and public funding to all forms of catalytic capital to impact-aligned market-return seeking investments. The ideal candidate has a breadth of experience with and exposure to a wide range of impact finance tools including: 

  • Private philanthropy spanning individual giving, donor advised funds and foundations

  • Public funding at local, regional, state, federal and international levels

  • US tax credit programs and mechanisms across a variety of sectors

  • Risk mitigation tools including guarantees and first loss capital

  • Revolving fund design, pilot loan origination, and fund management and advisement

  • Public securities offerings under a variety of authorities

  • Private offerings including private equity, venture capital, and hedge strategies

  • Democratized access to capital 

Compensation & Benefits 

The salary range for the Consulting Director position is $100,000-$130,000 based on relevant qualifications and experience. We offer a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, vision and dental coverage, a 401(k) retirement plan, remote work stipend, and unlimited vacation time alongside sick leave.
