Joy Brown

Resilience Specialist, Northwest Florida Sentinel Landscape

Joy grew up in the Florida Panhandle where she spent her days running through the woods, swimming in cold tannic creeks and fishing in bays with her family. It was her family that developed and inspired her love of the outdoors. Joy’s role with LegacyWorks as the Resilience Specialist for the Northwest Florida Sentinel Landscape brings her back to the same stomping grounds. She now focuses her passion on supporting the development of good works that will create a resilient environment for the folks that call the area home, those that visit and those that are inspired by its natural beauty.

Before taking the position with the Sentinel Landscape, Joy worked as the Resilient Communities Program Director for The Nature Conservancy in South Carolina for over 15 years. Her role with TNC included working with partners to develop funding avenues, installing and monitoring coastal resilience projects. She also worked with underserved communities, military installations and private property owners to mitigate flood & erosional impacts with nature based solutions. And prior to TNC, Joy worked with the Choctawhatchee Basin Alliance and the City of Fort Walton Beach to support NPDES program and stormwater education, plus starting a volunteer based water quality monitoring  program and living shoreline/oyster gardening/teacher education effort.
